Position Summary:
The Project Manager – Landscape Design and Development will work under supervision of the Parks Landscape Architect, helping to organize and manage internal design-build projects that utilize County trades and Parks staff as well as projects that involve outside design firms and contractors. The incumbent will utilize their proven experience and high level of expertise in all phases of site design and project management including scheduling, budget management, construction documentation, and construction management. This role is best suited for a self-motivated, team-oriented individual who is willing to take on responsibility and respond to new challenges daily.
Overview:
The Allegheny County Parks System consist of 9 parks in the greater Pittsburgh area, totaling over 12,000 acres. As one of the largest metro park systems in the country, the Allegheny County Parks System offers a broad range of recreational opportunities, cultural amenities, and natural areas.
Duties:
- Helps develop project documents for in-house construction or public bid, from site inventory/analysis to conceptual design to specifications and construction documents.
- Manages construction projects in the field; document progress and coordinate and conduct project meetings with contractors and design professionals.
- Prepares materials and cost estimates for design-build projects by County trades.
- Prepares permits required for various local, state, and federal agencies.
- Designs, plans, and implements various horticultural and natural areas restoration projects throughout the parks system, including physical installation or leading volunteer groups.
- Serves as project manager for the installation of new sign standards in all County Parks
- Identifies improvements needed in the park system
- Performs other duties as requested or required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Plant material suitable to the mid-Atlantic region and native species landscape design
- Ecological restoration and streambank restoration design and practices
- Sustainable development techniques, especially green infrastructure for stormwater source control
- Trail planning, construction, and design
- Public Park or garden operations
Skill in:
Ability to:
- Manage workflow and the work of teams seamlessly
- Transform design concepts to technical drawings with creative problem-solving skills
- Navigate permitting processes with various regulatory agencies
- Use Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD, Adobe Suite
- Work collaboratively with all Parks and County staff
- Spend a lot of time in the field in various weather conditions as needed, occasionally working outside for long periods and physically assisting with project installations
Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
