Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the Part-Time position of Environmental Educator. The employee in this position works 2-3 days per week year-round, including weekdays and weekends. The hourly rate is $16.00. The role of the employee in this position is to provide environmental education and outdoor recreational programming for the County Parks system; to plan, develop and implement programs.   The employee is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions of the position: 

  1. Assists in the administration/management of the Dauphin County Park system with emphasis on Wildwood Park and the Olewine Nature Center building.
  2. Assists with leading guided groups.
  3. Works to protect and manage the natural resources of the parks and their surroundings.
  4. Develops interpretive displays including exhibits, brochures, signs and other related materials at the Nature Center and throughout the park system.
  5. Collaborates with and supervises volunteers and community groups; organizes and deploys same in projects of research, construction, presentation, preservation and upkeep of the parks.
  6. Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program; preferred bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, environmental education, the natural sciences or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

2 years of experience in Environmental Education, Environmental Science and/or nature center administration or nature center operation.
