Join professional accessibility coordinators and consultants Fatima Nabavian and Ashley Patete, of the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living (LCVIL) as we explore ways to break down barriers and create inclusive spaces for individuals of all abilities to play, learn, and connect. During this webinar, we will review the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it can affect how you plan, manage and refit your spaces and programs. Attendees will also learn insights on what to look for when assessing accessibility and what a good site/program survey should include.

Fatima and Ashley, with their extensive experience and knowledge, will share insights and tips regarding providing good customer service for all. Key highlights include practical strategies and insights to enhance your understanding of accessibility and ensure that everyone is included in your parks and programs. Presenters:
Fatima Nabavian is a former special educator who began work at LVCIL as a Supports Coordinator in the Adult Autism Waiver program in January 2020. She transitioned to the role as LVCIL’s Community Accessibility Coordinator in 2021 and now manages both programs at the CIL. The Community Accessibility Team works with Assistive Technology Programs and supports local, state, and nationwide partners in promoting disability awareness and all aspects of accessibility, in physical and virtual spaces alike. With LVCIL’s AccessCheck program, Fatima’s team conducts surveys to make recommendations for barrier removal utilizing ADA standards.  In recent years, these surveys and reports were completed at various outdoor sites including several PA trails, Duke Farms in New Jersey, and Palmer Township, PA parks.
 
Ashley Patete has worked in the field of Special Education and Adaptive Recreation for almost 20 years. She has experience with a variety of assistive technology in real-life, functional settings such as the home, office, warehouse, community and camp. Ashley has taught students from Early Intervention (age birth-5) through early adulthood and assisted with the selection and use of AT from low tech adaptations to high-tech communication devices. Ashley has a passion for breaking down barriers to accessibility in all settings through her work with AccessCheck. She is a lover of nature and feels strongly that people of all abilities should be able to reap the benefits of the outdoors.
