Park Maintenance Institute Workshop
Join us for a day outdoors focusing on tree health, proper pruning techniques, and equipment safety. We have invited urban forestry educator Vinnie Cotrone from PSU Extension to share his expertise in arboriculture. This session will also include equipment safety demonstrations and hands-on opportunities supported by Nick Joensen, Technical Sales Specialist at STIHL, USA.

Institute Subscribers and Guests - $75
Non-Subscribers -       $100

Registration fees include morning refreshments, educational sessions, lunch, and networking.

This session has been approved for 3.75 PCH CEUs through the PA Landscape and Nursery Association.


8:30am – 9:00am            Arrival, registration, and AM refreshments

9:00am – 9:15am             Introductions, opening remarks, and agenda overview

9:15am – 10:45pm            Tree health and maintenance identification

Vinnie Cotrone, Extension Educator in Urban Forestry with PSU Extension, will introduce participants to various tree health challenges, discuss priorities for canopy management, and identify immediate pruning and maintenance opportunities for hands-on learning

10:45am – 12:00pm         Chainsaw safety and equipment best practices

Nick Joensen, Technical Sales Specialist at STIHL, USA will present on chainsaw safety and offer equipment demonstration as we begin trail work and tree work identified during the first session

12:00pm – 1:00pm            Catered Lunch and networking

1:00pm – 2:00pm             Pruning techniques and hands-on learning

Participants will get back to work pruning, clearing brush, and helping with trail maintenance to round out the afternoon
