Shop Talk - Managing Insect Damage in Turfgrass
During the summer, insects can do considerable damage to sports fields and open grass areas across the country. Recovery from this is vital to the playability of athletic turf, and the resilience of surrounding open areas. We invited Jeff Fowler to share a list of do's and don'ts to recuperate from the devastation insects can have on your green grass. Discussion during this session will focus on common damage caused by insects found on natural athletic fields using cold-season turfgrasses. Participants will: 1. Learn how to ID and control of insects that cause damage in cold-season grasses of various species 2. Gain a better understanding of signs from insect damage vs other problems 3. Learn about specific chemical and / or biological controls to reduce insect problems 4. Identify IPM strategies to plan control / don’t forget preventative tactics for the future
