Advance reading is highly recommended for those individuals taking the exam. One month of study time prior to the exam is suggested. In some cases, studying for the course in less than 3 weeks leads to exam failure.
Sponsored by the NRPA and hosted by the Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society, this blended online course is the most comprehensive training program on playground hazard identification and risk management methods offered. Along with a Field Guide and the official course manual, an online Learning Course, and a 4-hour Zoom class with a professional instructor will prepare you to sit for the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Exam. After the course, you can take the exam either online or at any NRPA testing center near you. The CPSI Course trains individuals to identify hazards on public playgrounds and playground equipment, how to rank hazards according to injury potential, and how to apply that knowledge to establish a comprehensive playground safety program. The course covers the material necessary to pass the Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification exam. Upon completion of the CPSI course, an individual should be capable of establishing a sound risk reduction program, develop a system for repair, retrofit, and removal of hazardous equipment, and build a routine inspection and maintenance program for their agency or playground owner-client. Resource materials developed especially for this course are included in the registration fee and will be mailed to all participants when the course minimum has been met.

Playground Maintenance Workshop - Fall dates coming soon!
According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety commission (CPSC) 200,000 children are treated for playground accidents annually. The National Playground Safety Institute (NPSI) attributes over 40% of those accidents to poor playground maintenance. By educating and training staff and supervisors, we can improve maintenance procedures on public play equipment and create after play environments for our children. John Balicki, will also include techniques and standards to keep our playgrounds in compliance with the latest health standards. Participants will also receive several ready-to-use reference sources to download and review prior to the class including:
- CPSC “handbook for Public Playground Safety”
- National Recreation and Park Association’s “Dirty Dozen Checklist”
- Playground Inspection Forms
- Complete set of class slides for review and notes
